Description

For this Dyed Veneer reference we used Maple figured. Unlike most other hardwoods, the sapwood of hard maple is more commonly used rather than its heartwood. The colour of the sapwood varies from almost white to a whitish cream colour, sometimes with a reddish or golden hue. The heartwood tends to be a darker reddish brown. Birdseye maple is a figure most commonly found in hard maple, although it is also less commonly found in other species. Hard maple can also be seen with curly or quilted grain patterns.

The grain of maple is generally straight, but may be wavy. It has a fine, even texture.

Stained maple veneer is fairly easy to work with both hand tools and machine tools, although slightly more difficult than soft maple due to the higher density of hard maple. Maple has a tendency to burn when machined with high-speed cutters, such as on a router. It turns, glues and finishes well, although staining can occur when staining, and a pre-conditioner, gel stain or toner may be necessary to obtain a uniform colour. V

It should be moderately priced, although slightly more expensive than soft maple. Also, figured pieces such as bird’s eye, curl or quilt are likely to be much more expensive.

This wood species is not listed in the CITES Appendices, and is reported by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) as a species of least concern.

We always work hard to provide materials that are environmentally friendly, controlled and sustainable. So that our customers can feel comfortable knowing that we care about the environment and the health of our forests.

Natural wood veneer is sourced from the trunk of a tree, by cutting large blocks of chopped wood, we obtain raw natural wood veneers. Each package of natural wood veneers is unique, no two trees are the same, so you can’t get natural veneers that are 100% the same. Even the same wood species do not have identical patterns. We can supply not only thick veneer, but also paper thin veneer, standard 0.5 mm veneer, rough cut veneer, engineered floor top layer veneer, exotic wood veneer (always FSC approved or controlled).

All the products we manage, manufacture and offer to our customers are FLEGT licensed and comply with EUTR guidelines, as well as submitting the necessary declarations annually to the General Directorate for Biodiversity, Forests and Desertification of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.

Common uses: flooring (from basketball courts and dance floors to bowling alleys and residential), veneer, paper (pulp), musical instruments, cutting boards, butcher blocks, workbenches, baseball bats and other turned objects and special wood items.

Comments: In tree form, hard maple is generally known as sugar maple, and is the tree most commonly used for maple syrup. Sugar maple leaves are the shape most people associate with maple leaves; they are usually 5 or 7-lobed, with vivid autumn colours ranging from yellow to purplish red.

The hard maple must be considered the king of the Acer genus. Its wood is stronger, stiffer, harder and denser than all other commercially available maple species in lumber form. (It is also the state tree in four different states in the United States). For more information, see the article on the differences between hard and soft maple.

Staining process: All the materials we use in our woods for all colour processes are water-based and made from natural ingredients. The stained veneer uses a special technology that is applied to the substrate. The veneer undergoes bleaching and purification, which works to remove chemical and toxic components from the wood. The veneer is then immersed in the dye solution. This process ensures a consistent depth of colour throughout the thickness of the veneer.
